Husaberg revolutionised the Enduro market in 2009 when it launched a brand new engine layout concept which offered dramatically improved handling characteristics. Now just one year on Husaberg is launching three new models to join the existing fuel injected FE 450 and FE 570 Enduro motorcycles.

The new 2010 model range includes the smaller capacity 390cc Enduro motorcycle the FE 390, a Cross Country racing machine, the FX 450, and a road legal Supermoto model the FS 570.

All the models share the same engine layout design which positions engine at a 70° angle, this new cylinder position brings the rotating inertia of the crankshaft closer to the centre of gravity, which results in less momentum when cornering and better handling.

What makes the Husabergs so good?
70° Cylinder Angle - A flat cylinder angle of 70° allows the crankshaft to be moved more than 100 mm upwards and approx. 160 mm to the rear, this bringing the rotating masses of the crankshaft closer to the bike‘s centre of gravity. This centralisation of the masses results in an incomparably light handling for a four-stroke single cylinder. Positive side-effects of the more elevated engine are the reduced overall width and significantly unrivalled ground clearance - an enormous benefit in rough off-road terrain.
Cylinder Head - An overhead camshaft operates the four valves (incl. titanium intake valves) using lightweight rocker arms and also serves as a centrifuge for the engine ventilation. For the FE 390 engine a new camshaft and a new piston have been developed in order to achieve an optimal Enduro specific engine characteristics. A reworked chain tensioner at all engines guarantees safer tension of the timing chain. New oil control rings (400 & 450 cc only) and piston rings made of nitrated steel ensure long-life durability.
Engine Management - State-of-the-art engine management from Keihin ensures a previously unknown smooth response and riding behaviour simultaneously with improved performance. The cylinder breathes via the air-box positioned in the tank and a 42 mm throttle body in direct downdraught for optimum flow and hence maximum power. Temperature and elevation compensation are also state-of-the-art. In addition, the system offers the possibility of activating two further mappings (more gentle or more aggressive than the standard mapping) via an optional map select switch from the Husaberg Parts programme.
Transmission - All engines of the FE and FS models are fitted with a six-speed transmission, which features reinforced idler gears of the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th gear. The FX 450 is fitted with a special transmission (6-speed) adapted to the closed circuit use.
Crank Shaft - There was a new crank shaft developed for the FE 390, which features a shorter stroke and more inertia, which supplies a smoother and more tractable power delivery. A longer connecting rod compensates the shorter stroke. For all models the low-end bearing is updated with a DLC coated cage for a better reliability.
Electric Starter - Why do you need a kick-starter when the bike can be started just as reliably at the push of a button. The precise, ultra-modern engine management allows the engine to be started in a second in any situation. This enabled a kick-starter to be eliminated, reducing the engine weight to a minimum level of under 31 kg.
Clutch - The clutch with integrated clutch damper and adequate oil supply was designed for extreme loads. Thanks to the hydraulic clutch actuation from Magura, clutch control is reference class. The FLEX clutch lever of this system can be folded 90° to the front, significantly reducing the risk of breakage in the event of a crash.

Frame - The double cradle perimeter design chrome molybdenum frame ensures maximum torsion rigidity and reliable tracking stability at a minimum weight. Thanks to the upright engine design, the frame tubes running under the engine could be made extremely lean and positioned higher. That offers minimum overall width and much ground clearance, a huge advantage in tough terrain.
Rear Subframe - Why does it always have to be metal when high-strength plastics can do the job just as well? With this motto, the Husaberg engineers designed the rear frame of cross linked polyethylene, which guarantees much more flexibility compared to aluminium, which might be bent in case of crash. Apart from reduced weight, this material offers a free choice of form. Numerous electrical components can thus be safely embedded in the rear frame, while a lateral opening under the seat serves as a hand-hold when manoeuvring in tough terrain.
Swingarm - The new setting of the 48 mm WP upside-down forks guarantees improved comfort at the same level of damping reserves. The forks are adjustable in compression and rebound damping as well as spring pre-load. With their wide adjustment range, the forks can be ideally adapted to the track and the rider.
Upside-Down Forks - The new setting of the 48 mm WP upside-down forks guarantees improved comfort at the same level of damping reserves. The forks are adjustable in compression and rebound damping as well as spring pre-load. With their wide adjustment range, the forks can be ideally adapted to the track and the rider.
Triple clamps - The CNC machined triple clamps – now anodised in noble black - feature an increased off-set (22 mm instead of 19 mm), which guarantees better control and feel of the front wheel.
PDS Shock - The fully adjustable WP PDS shock absorber has not only adjustable rebound damping but also variable high and low speed compression damping. The new setting means better comfort and traction without loss of bottoming resistance.
Brakes - The latest generation of Brembo brakes is renowned for its brake performance and controllability. The front brake could even be improved by new brake pads (Toyo B 153) for the double piston floating calliper. At the rear wheel a single-piston brake calliper grips the ultra-light brake disc with its wave design.
Exhaust System - The exhaust manifold has been integrated into the bike in such a way that it is optimally protected from damage caused by rocks, and also for the rider it is hard to make contact with it. The elegant silencer made of lightweight aluminium reliably complies with the demanded noise limits.
Headlight Mask - The modern design of the headlight mask is an optimum combination of form and function. The mask integrates perfectly the headlight with its scratchproof plastic lens and serves at the same time as a stabiliser for the front fender. A new brake hose guide keeps the front brake hose in position.
Airbox - Positioned directly behind the tank cover, it is concealed by the front part of the seat. A straight intake duct in direct downdraught from the filter to the cylinder ensures maximum performance. This higher air-box position guarantees cool, cleaner intake air and in particular unbeatable wading depth for crossing deep rivers.
Fuel tank - The 8.5 litre tank of transparent polyethylene drawn well down under the seat contributes to the centralisation of the masses and the lowest possible bike centre of gravity. A new fuel level sensor indicates via control lamp in the cockpit, when the fuel level is getting low. The compact fuel pump is in the lower section of the tank, while the airbox is located in the upper part of the tank.
